Department of Psychology
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Undergraduate Advising Office

This office provides a wide range of information and services related to psychology courses, the major, the minor, career guidance, and graduate school preparation. The office is supervised by the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Dina Birman and staffed by Ms. Elizabeth Barnes, the professional Academic Advisor who is available five days a week for departmental advising. Students can be seen on a walk-in basis every Tuesday. On other days, you may make an appointment and receive undivided attention. No appointment is necessary to declare the major, you can do this with an advisor or in BSB 1009 at the front desk. Please have your UIN with you whenever you see an advisor or fill out a change of major form.

For additional news on classes, events and job postings join the PSYCH MAJORS e-mail list by e-mailing the Undergraduate Advsior. Important updates and news regarding Psychology courses and policies will be sent to this list often by the Undergraduate Advisor and the Director of Undergraduate Studies. Please also check the bulletin boards outside of BSB 1033 for such updates!

Office Hours: We're here to help you! To do so most effectively, please note these hours:

Advising Appointments: Monday, Thursday, and Friday 9am-11:30am and 1pm-3:30pm
Walk-ins: Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am-11:30am and 1pm-4pm

We are here for all your psychology major advising needs such as declaring a major, choosing psychology courses, career guidance, and graduate school application support.

Note that walk-in hours are designated for quick questions 5-10minutes.

If you feel your situation will require more time, please take advantage of our regular advising appointments.

Please contact Rita Gray-Marsh in room 1009 or by phone at 996-3037 to schedule an appointment with an advisor.

Note: Your brief emergency questions can usually be resolved by email or telephone, which is in fact often more effective than an unscheduled drop-in during appointment-only hours. If we can't handle the issue via email or telephone, we'll make an appointment for you.
