Application Procedures

Thank you for your interest in our program.  We offer a full-time, research-oriented PhD program.  We do not admit students seeking only the MA degree, and we do not accept non-degree or part-time students. We admit students in fall terms only. The application deadline is December 15th each year for the following fall term.

Please continue to surf the rest of our web site to learn about our program, review our admission requirements and procedures, and download our application forms.  It is our goal to maintain current faculty web pages on our web site at all times so that is always your best source for information on our faculty.   For a virtual tour of the UIC campus, visit http://www.uic.edu/portfolio/uicnow/ .

Applicants will send two separate packets of materials:  one packet goes to the University's Office of Graduate Admissions, and one goes to the Department of Psychology.   Please note that we are asking applicants to collect their letters of recommendation from their referees and include them with the application packet which is sent to the Department of Psychology so that the documents which come to the department arrive in a single package for each applicant.  Thank you.

To summarize our application procedures, mail to the Office of Graduate Admissions (M/C 018), University of Illinois at Chicago, PO Box 5220, Chicago IL 60680-5220:

  1. The original of the Graduate College Application.  (The University prefers applicants to submit an electronic application--which is accessible via the Psychology web site.  If you complete  an electronic application, it is not necessary for you to mail an application to Graduate Admissions.)
  2. The application fee.   (Do not send your application fee to the Psychology Department.)   You have the option of paying your application fee on line.
  3. Official copies of all transcripts for undergraduate and graduate work.

In one complete, separate package, mail to the Graduate Admissions Committee, Department of Psychology (M/C 285), The University of Illinois at Chicago, 1007 W. Harrison, Chicago IL 60607-7137:

  1. Photocopies of all transcripts. If you send your original application form and/or transcripts to the Department, please do not assume that you have satisfied the requirements to send these documents to the Office of Graduate Admissions as outlined in the above section.
  2. Cover Page for the Department of Psychology Application Packet.
  3. Application for Graduate Appointment.
  4. Personal Statement. See Graduate Admission Procedures (link appears above) on our web page for more information on the Personal Statement and basic admission requirements.
  5. Unofficial copies of GRE Aptitude and Advanced Test Scores. You must also have Educational Testing Service send official scores to the Department. The UIC institution code is 1851. The Psychology code is 2016.
  6. Two self-addressed stamped postcards--so that the Department is able to notify you if an important document is missing from your file, or let you know that your materials have been received by the Department. The University's Office of Graduate Admissions may send you separate notification if any of their required documents are outstanding .
  7. Three sealed (signed across the seal) original letters of recommendation. Please inform your letter writers to return their letters to you for mailing to the department. Letters which arrive separately can be misplaced and result in delays in processing and reviewing applications.

If you are unable to download the forms or if you require a hard copy of the admissions brochure, please contact us and we will add your name to our mailing list. You may email us at pschinfo@uic.edu--noting that you require a hard copy of the materials because you cannot download the forms and including your name and address.

Final Note

Good luck in the application process. Applicants who complete the University's electronic on line web-based Graduate Application Form must fulfill the departmental requirements of sending their additional materials to us in a single packet as outlined above.
