Frequently Asked Questions for Staff Application Process
- Can I apply on-line or via e-mail?
You can apply for positions listed on the main UIC
Human Resources website on-line. Most of our open positions will be
listed there. Please do not e-mail your application directly to the department
or search committee staff or faculty. Due to virus concerns, no attachments
will be opened by staff and faculty.
- How soon will I hear something after my application?
Soon after the search closes, you will receive a letter
from us confirming your application. The search committee for that position
will contact applicants they wish to interview. Please understand that this
process takes time. You will be contacted if the search committee feels
that an interview is necessary. If you are not contacted, the search committee
has made a decision not to interview you. There may be a number of reasons,
including withdrawing the position, organizational changes, other candidates
who were better matched, etc. All applicants will receive a letter from
us when the search committee officially closes the search.
- Can I put my resume on file with the department
in case something comes up?
Due to the high volume of searches and applications in
any given year, we are unable to retain your resume on file to match you
with a future position. We only accept applications for open, posted positions.
- How can I find out the pay range for a position?
Most job announcements no longer include salary ranges.
You are encouraged to apply for a position that has a level of responsibility
and job function commensurate with your skills and experience. You may indicate
salary expectations in your cover letter. We determine pay rates within
University guidelines, which include considering the following: job classification,
pay range, market pay information, unit budget/ability to pay, and internal
equity. Learn more about different employee groups at the main UIC
Human Resources site.
- Any other tips before I apply?
Remember to include all the information asked for in the position announcement.
No late applications can be accepted - applications are due by the end
of the business day on the closing date indicated in the ad. Please include
the job ID in your cover letter.
