My research interests center around describing and studying the effects of culturally sensitive mental health interventions for refugee and immigrant groups at multiple levels of analysis. I am interested in using a practice-based evidence approach to mental health research with diverse populations, and have worked on projects with Heartland Alliance, the International Institute of New Jersey, and World Relief Chicago. Additionally, I am interested in issues around multicultural competence and evaluation capacity building.

My utmost concern lies on the urban children/adolescents in poverty. The superkids' stories always fascinate me because I consider any inner-city kid as its candidate. Nowadays I'm trying to conceptualize issues surrounding them in terms of "culture". And I believe more contextual and natural that are approached systematically though can make a huge difference, which draws my attention also to the social policy issues.

Hi! I'm a 5th year student and my general research interest is violence against women. Specifically, I'm interested in working with communities to help make them more informed about intimate partner violence and sexual assault. This I believe will also help make them more supportive of survivors of these crimes.

I am a third year graduate student in the Community Prevention Research Program of the Psychology department and I am advised by Dr. Edison Trickett. My current research focuses on two distinct interests: ESL programs in Chicago Public Schools and the immigration process of Soviet Jews in the US. I am part of a research team headed by Dr Trickett that, through qualitative interviewing, is interested in the work lives of ESL/Bilingual teachers in Chicago Public Schools. The second interest is the focus of my master's thesis on the economic adaptation and immigration process of Soviet Jewish families as illuminated by their expectations, preparations and reflective recommendations.
